| Set in the rolling bluffs just outside Grafton, Illinois, overlooking the scenic Illinois River, Pere Marquette State Park is a treasure-trove of nature and scenic beauty. The 8,000-acre area is located in Jersey County on the Great River Road, five miles from Grafton on Illinois Route 100, and approximately 25 miles northwest of Alton. Once roamed by Indians and frontiersmen, Pere Marquette has a rich heritage. The park is named in memory of Father Jacques Marquette, the French Jesuit missionary priest who, in 1673 along with explorer Louis Joliet, was the first European to enter what is now Illinois. The centerpiece of the park is the massive lodge and djacent guesthouses, recently restored over a twoyear period by the Illinois Department of Conservation. Originally built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930’s, the lodge has a distinctive flavor of native stone and rustic timbers. Today the old has been skillfully blended with the new, providing first-class accommodations in a historical setting. Open 365 days of the year, the Lodge, dining room, and grounds offer a fine seat for the best of the seasonally changing variety offered by Mother Nature. A700-ton native stone fireplace is the most prominent feature in the Great Room Lobby and, with original furniture from the 1930’s, lends the perfect backdrop for an evening’s conversation. A match played on the life size chess board is a Lodge tradition. Just outside the Great Room is the 150 foot Brussels Terrace named after one of the many geological features in the park and a delightful outdoor setting for river and sunset viewing-Open each day of the year with Sunday – Thursday savings. Our guest rooms are pleasant accommodations with 50 rooms in the main lodge and 22 cabin motel rooms. The cabin rooms are situated away from the main lodge with a rustic, woodsy decor while the main lodge rooms have a contemporary, woodsy decor. The indoor recreation area includes a 25 by 50 foot crystal clear swimming pool, whirlpool, dry sauna, and exercise room. A seasonal variety of games are available as are hiking and biking trails. Many parts of Pere Marquette Lodge are handicap accessible with a special lift available for pool access. With seating for 150, a rustic, elegant dining room serves a full breakfast menu with healthy and home-style offerings. The luncheon menu offers both light and hearty selections.Featuring family- style or from the menu dining, the dinner menu includes delicious fried chicken and fried catfish, a variety of steaks and poultry dishes, sandwiches, pasta, and fish and seafood selections. For dessert, be sure to try our special amaretto cheesecake and chocolate pecan pie. A romantic table for two or larger special occasion parties will both have a lovely and festive meal with pleasant, accommodating service. The Pere Marquette Sunday Grand Buffet Brunch is a delicious stop on the Great River Road. The buffet features a tempting selection of beef, pork and fish, seasonal entrees, salads, breads, and simple to fancy desserts. There is also a cocktail lounge with a fountain patio offering televised sports, pool table, darts and your favorite beverages. Celebrate life’s milestones and holidays with delicious ease. Active or restive? The choice is yours. |
